Multifunctional complex “Cascade Plaza” 2014, Ukraine, Dnipro
For the illumination of the multifunctional complex “Cascade Plaza”, we used spotlights with bifocal lenses that provides the same brightness perception of the light points both in direct closeness to the facade (from the adjoined boulevard) and from the distance of 2-3 km (from the opposite bank of the Dnipro river). The lighting constantly changes shades due to a big amount of the programmed patterns. In case of necessity, colors can be tuned in themes of public holidays or any other events.
“Cascade Plaza” is a multifunctional complex in the center of Dnipro city. We emphasized the modular architecture of the building by a multimedia pixelated illumination that constantly changes its shades. The illumination of the complex solved an important problem: the lighting does not blind the people in the adjoined pedestrian zones while on a scale of the city the building is seen on a distance of about 3 km around.
The lighting, which was earlier considered only in perspective of a functional need, is getting more and more important player in creating an emotional background of a city environment. Our job was not only to make the objects visible in the night time but also set a cultural code by lighting that in symbiosis with architecture fills our citizens with emotions. For the illumination of the multifunctional complex “Cascade Plaza”, we used spotlights with bifocal lenses that provides the same brightness perception of the light points both in direct closeness to the facade (from the adjoined boulevard) and from the distance of 2-3 km (from the opposite bank of the Dnipro river). The lighting constantly changes shades due to a big amount of the programmed patterns. In case of necessity, colors can be tuned in themes of public holidays or any other events. On the roof of the complex, there are gardens. For their lighting, we refused to apply traditional landscape lamps and made the illumination which was fully integrated into the architectural forms of the gardens. We also used light to strengthen the presence of a few trees.
